Sacred Solace: Unseen Strength
36" x 24"; Acrylic Paint, Beads
Sacred Solace is the solemn yet resilient visage of an older South Indian Brahmin widow, her gaze reflective and surrounded by a profusion of flowers. She is a woman, who, despite the weight of sorrow, emerges as a source of quiet strength for herself, her family, and the broader community. Cloaked in traditional attire and prayer beads, she becomes a living testament to the profound journey of grief and resilience. This widow's journey, etched with loss, is also adorned with the blossoms of strength that she cultivates within herself, an internal garden of resilience.
This South Indian woman is rendered with strong lines inspired by Kalighat painting, while being enveloped by the detailed, floral patterns of Madhubani art in the surrounding background / border. In the past, widows were not allowed to wear flowers even when they are nurturing their growth and surrounded by them, making this portrait a reflection of her quiet strength & grace.
