Original, one-of-a-kind artwork.
Pookalam draws inspiration from the traditional floral mandalas created during harvest festivals in South India, specifically from the Onam festival in Kerala - ephemeral arrangements made petal by petal on the ground. In this work, that fleeting ritual is transformed into a lasting, dimensional form.
Using my signature hand-piped technique, each floral element is individually built in heavy-body acrylic and layered directly onto the panel. The surface rises in sculptural relief, creating a tactile interplay between pattern, repetition, and bloom.
Light, Pattern & Living Color.
Iridescent pigments are woven throughout the composition, allowing the painting to respond dynamically to changing light. As daylight shifts across the surface, colors intensify, shadows deepen, and the intricate textures create a quiet sense of movement that a flat image cannot replicate.
A Cultural & Contemporary Statement.
This signed original bridges tradition and contemporary practice. It carries both the celebratory geometry of a pookalam and the permanence of sculptural painting — designed to stand confidently as a focal point within a modern interior.
